SP Govt spent over Rs 8.78 crore on chai, samosa in last 4 yrs
Believe it or not! Ministers of the Akhilesh Yadav Government splurged over Rs 8.78 crore on samosa, chai and other refreshments in the last four years of the Samajwadi Party regime.
State Minister (Independent Charge) Arun Kumari Kori topped the list of such Ministers by spending Rs 22,93,800 on chai, samosa and gulab jamun during her four years as Social  Welfare Minister.
She was closely trailed by State Minister for Child Development and Nutrition and Primary Education Kailash Chaurasia who spent Rs 22, 85,900 while State Urban Development Minister Mohammad Azam Khan came in a close third by splurging Rs 22,86,620 on snacking.
The other prominent Ministers who spent over Rs 21 lakh on refreshments are External Aided Project, Overall Rural Development, Sports and Youth Welfare and Excise minister Ram Karan Arya and Land Development and Water Resources and Waste Land Development Minister Jagdish Sonkar.
The information was given by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav in a written reply given to an unstarred question of BJP leader Suresh Kumar Khanna in the UP Assembly last week.
This detail was for exact four years — between March 15, 2012 when the Akhilesh Yadav Government took oath, till March 15, 2016, when it completed four years.
The CM also clarified that as per rule, a Minister can spent Rs 2,500 per day as refreshments within the State and Rs 3,000 daily outside the State, for performing his/her duties.
Former UP Minister Shiv Kumar Beria, who was sacked by CM on October 2015 had spent Rs 21,93,900 during his tenure as Minister.
The lowest expenditure was made by Minister of State for Women Welfare (Independent charge) Sadab Fatima, who spent just Rs 72,500 in her short term of one year.
“The amount seems huge but Ministers do not utilise this fund on him/herself. This is used for official meetings and some times on people who come from the Ministers’ constituencies in large numbers. This is just a courtesy which the staff of ministers follow,” said Samajwadi party spokesman Rajendra Chaudhary.
